Ioften wonder when I’ll reach a point in my life where I’m not stepping outside my comfort zone.

I’ve said for years that life is best lived outside your comfort zone, but I’m an old man now. Cruise control as I approach the end of the proverbial road sounds like a peaceful way to age.

Over the past three weeks, though, I found myself well outside of that comfort zone.

First came an 80-hour training block that pushed me physically as hard as I’ve ever been pushed — plus a fair bit of mental stress. The course required passing both a written exam and a physical practical test.

Not only was I older than all my classmates, I was older than all but one of the instructors.
