A Paterson-based nonprofit is inviting residents to trade their beds for sleeping bags this weekend as part of an effort to spotlight homelessness and support ongoing outreach in the community.
Muture Sisters , a volunteer-driven organization focused on service and empowerment, will host the 2nd Annual “Sleep Out” on Saturday from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. at United Presbyterian Church, 375 Van Houten St.
The event, held in support of Homeless Awareness Month, encourages participants to spend one night sleeping outdoors in a safe, supervised space.
“Members of the Paterson community and I decided to give up our beds for a night in an effort to raise awareness to this issue,” said Sharonda Roberts, founder of Muture Sisters. “A night of discomfort for us means a future of dignity for them.”
