The Monongahela Incline will be closed for a third consecutive week as Pittsburgh Regional Transit finalizes its report to state oversight agencies regarding a mechanical failure that stranded dozens of passengers earlier this month.
The incline, in the South Side near Station Square, broke down during the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 1, with 27 passengers aboard its two cars, which were around 40 feet from their stations.
PRT’s initial “hard rest” of the system failed, and rescuers spent the next several hours safely removing each passenger using harnesses and baskets.
PRT replaced the motor controller that caused the stoppage last week, and a third-party inspector found “no evidence of any mechanical concerns” earlier this week, PRT spokesperson Adam Brandolph said in a statement.
