You don’t have to be Anna Wintour to sit in the front row of Fashion Art Toronto. “The audience is everyone,” said founder Vanja Vasic. “Looking out at the sea of people over the years, it is incredible how many diverse people we get out watching these shows.”

Fashion Art Toronto (FAT) , running Nov. 10 to 16, is now Toronto’s longest-running fashion week, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. It is a multi-art platform that has outlived many official and unofficial fashion weeks .

In an international industry that has long been pilloried (justifiably) for exclusivity and gatekeeping, FAT does things differently. The biannual event throws the doors open to the public and has fostered talents of all sizes, ages, backgrounds, orientations and budgets.
