WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash. – Whitman County Public Health has confirmed five cases of Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, at Washington State University.

The county confirmed the cases on November 13 and said they were confined within the WSU student population.

The county asked the students with Pertussis to isolate, stay home and not go to public places.

There is no outbreak within the broader community, but the county asked its residents to take preventative measures. Preventative measures include being aware, talking to a doctor if contact with someone with Pertussis is made, remaining up to date with Pertussis immunization and practicing food, hand, mouth and nose hygiene.
