GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The iconic Blue Bridge will turn red Friday evening as the Salvation Army kicks off its largest fundraiser of the year, the Red Kettle.
The event to celebrate the beginning of the Red Kettle season begins at 5 p.m. at the Blue Bridge. There will be plenty of music, carols, refreshments and of course, red kettles.
The Red Kettles campaign started in the 1890s. Marked by volunteers ringing bells outside of stores while asking for donations for those in need.
The funds through the Red Kettle provide services all year round which includes a food pantry that feeds fifty families a day in Kent County. It also supports Pathway of Hope, which helps break generational poverty, and it also helps the largest senior program in Kent County that dedicates time to making sure s
