A 56-year-old New Jersey teacher harassed and stalked a girl who had already been victimized by her field hockey coach, authorities said Friday, Nov. 14.
The case began after Coach Brett Clay was convicted of criminal sexual contact, Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald said. Clay admitted he “sent numerous messages of a sexual nature” to a girl he coached, McDonald said alongside Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr., and Bridgewater Township Police Chief John Mitzak.
Soon after Clay’s conviction, the victim reported something new: anonymous handwritten letters were being circulated among people she knew, officials said.
According to Roman and Mitzak, the letters “were harassing in nature and contained lewd, indecent, and obscene messages about the victim.”
Detectives launched an investigation and identified the alleged sender as Tracy Biondi, a Bridgewater teacher from Basking Ridge, according to authorities. Investigators said Biondi launched “a relentless campaign” against the girl, including “manufacturing outright lies” and calling her a liar despite Clay’s admission.
Biondi was a teacher in the Bridgewater Township School District and had ties to the field hockey community and to Clay, authorities said. She also tried to recruit other field hockey families to support Clay, according to investigators.
Biondi was arrested outside her home and charged with cyber harassment, stalking, and harassment, authorities said.
