A beloved holiday tradition in Stonington is back for its fifth year.

This week, the Stonington Lobster Trap Tree on the town docks is under construction ahead of its Nov. 22 tree lighting.

The tree is made up of:

460 buoys

460 lobster traps

50+ strands of lights

Thousands of hours of manpower

Every year, local artists and students paint the buoys, an effort organized by the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce

President Lisa Konicki said the variety makes the tree a marvel of architecture and aesthetic.
