License plate readers are in the cross hairs of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) here in Connecticut, but some departments say they have been extremely effective.

Southington police have 32 readers all over town, constantly scanning license plates and while that may be intimidating, police said they have been a great tool to solve crime.
