Coronado was faced with a tall task last Wednesday night. The No. 4 seed in the CIF Open Division playoffs, the Islanders girls volleyball team, made the 30-minute trip north to take on the top-seeded Falcons of Torrey Pines High School.
Coming into the match, Torrey Pines was the No. 5-ranked team in the nation per MaxPreps, and hadn’t lost a match since September 20th. To upend the top-seeded Falcons, Coronado would need to be perfect.
The Islander entered the match with a solid scouting report, as the two teams had met a little less than a month earlier, where Coronado played the Falcons closely in a loss back on October 10th.
While the Lady Islanders put forth a valiant effort, it would ultimately not be enough as Coronado fell to Torrey Pines in the CIF Open semifinals in straight
