The Blinn College women’s basketball team opened the Paris Classic with a 71-53 victory over Connors State College on Friday in Paris.

The Buccaneers (2-1) earned their second consecutive victory.

“It was a good team win today,” Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “We got to play all 14 players and got them some good game experience.”

The Bucs built an 18-9 advantage by the end of the first quarter before the Cowgirls fought back to cut Blinn’s lead to just 32-27 at halftime.

The Bucs began pulling away in the third quarter by outscoring Connors State 20-16 in the third period before closing out the game with a 19-10 fourth-quarter performance.

Sophomore guard Mariah Houston hit five 3-pointers as part of a team-high 17-point effort. Sophomore forward Cynthia LeCompte added 16 points,
