LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A permanent statement in the Congressional Record now recognizes a group of Louisville firefighters for their immense bravery in responding to last week’s deadly UPS plane crash.

While first responders are extensively trained for catastrophes, firefighters with the Okolona Fire Department admit that no amount of training could have truly prepared them for the harrowing scenes they witnessed when a UPS Cargo plane crashed on November 4. The tragic incident resulted in the loss of 14 lives.

The Okolona Fire Department’s Preston Highway station has been filled with heartfelt letters written by students from Alex R. Kennedy Elementary School. These handwritten notes are a testament to the community’s gratitude.
