WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Congress passed a short-term "continuing resolution" on Wednesday, funding the federal government only through the end of January. Experts said that means the same political fight that caused the shutdown could return within weeks.
Tennessee experts are weighing in on local impacts.
“They've only funded the government until January," UT political science professor Bill Lyons said. "That's the key. It's a very short-lived extension."
At the center of the standoff were enhanced premium tax credits, the COVID-era Affordable Care Act subsidies used by roughly 20 million Americans. Those subsidies are set to expire at the end of the year.
Democrats pushed to extend those credits and refused to support a funding bill without either a commitment or legislation protecting
