Frederick County State's Attorney Charlie Smith said Thursday that the option to seek the death penalty was his primary motivation for handing a 2024 Lake Linganore murder case to federal prosecutors.

David Turner, 35, was facing state murder charges from Smith’s office for the August 2024 shooting deaths of Turner's ex-wife and her boyfriend.
