Some Chickamauga residents woke up to a surprise right outside their front door: a giant sinkhole. City workers tell me the sinkhole was 25 feet across, 20 feet wide, and 15 feet deep when they started working on it, and they plan to wrap up repairs by the weekend.

"It's enough to swallow up a whole car,” says Fred Ufford, who lives on Clebourne Avenue, right where the sinkhole is.

Another resident, Gloria Meroney, lives directly in front of the sinkhole. She says, since her driveway is blocked by, she’s had to drive through her front yard to leave her house.

She tells me she first noticed commotion outside her window Thursday evening.
