MIAMI — A Florida woman has filed a against Costco Wholesale Corporation, claiming the retail giant's Kirkland Signature tequila line falsely advertises itself as "100% agave" when laboratory testing suggests otherwise.
Ariel Glazer filed the complaint in federal court in Miami on Oct. 31, alleging that specialized testing revealed Costco's Kirkland tequilas contain alcohol not derived from blue agave plants, the sole ingredient required for authentic tequila under Mexican regulations.
The lawsuit targets five Kirkland tequila varieties — Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, Añejo Cristalino and Extra Añejo — which are prominently labeled "100% DE AGAVE" and "100% AGAVE AZUL" on their bottles. These products are sold at Costco stores nationwide and online for between $18.69 and $48.99 per bottle.
