LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - On this day in 1896, Mamie Doud was born in Boone, Iowa.
Her married name will likely jog your memory: She became Mamie Eisenhower in 1916.
She traveled the world with her husband, Dwight, before World War II, when he became the general of the U.S. Army.
In 1952, he handily won the presidential election, and Mamie became the second first lady from Iowa, teh first being Lou Henry Hoover.
