SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The American Red Cross is offering free A1C testing throughout November as part of Diabetes Awareness Month, encouraging donors to learn their risk for prediabetes and diabetes. Anyone who donates blood automatically receives the screening as part of the donation process.
“Anyone who donates will automatically get that free screening of the A1C on their blood products, so anyone who comes through the Red Cross now through November will automatically get that free test added to their blood donation,” says Patty Brooks, executive director of the Eastern South Dakota chapter of the American Red Cross.
Brooks said knowing your health history is an important step in managing or preventing diabetes.
