To be fair, Oklahoma somehow in the first match of the season was without five starters against the No. 1-ranked Penn State wrestling team at Bryce Jordan Center on Friday night. So maybe, just maybe, the Sooners wouldn’t have given up 45 points with a healthy squad.

The fact remains that it is highly unlikely that the Sooners would have scored any team points regardless because of the way Penn State wrestled. The Nittany Lions may have had sharper opening nights but with eight bonus-point wins, including five technical falls, 143 bout points and a 35-1 bulge in takedowns during the shutout, who could tell?

Marcus Blaze (133), Rocco Welsh (184) and Connor Mirasola (197) made their dual-meet debuts for the Nittany Lions as Blaze scored 18 points, Welsh 19 and Mirasola 13.
