KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Five different Komets scored, including the first professional goal of defenseman Beau Akey, in a 5-3 win over the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday before 3,472 fans at the Wings Event Center.

Komets goaltender Nathan Day finished with 11 saves on 14 shots. Kalamazoo goalie Luke Pavicich had 35 saves on 40 shots. The Komets scored once on four power plays while holding the Wings without a power play goal on four attempts.

The Komets (8-2-0) controlled the first period, holding the Wings to just two shots at even strength. Fort Wayne took a 1-0 lead into the intermission after a power-play goal by forward Brady Stonehouse five minutes and 37 seconds into the game. Forwards Jayden Grubbe and Kirill Tyutyayev assisted.
