The University of Charleston figures to need to jump at least a couple of spots in the NCAA Division II Super Region One football rankings to make a third straight appearance in the postseason.

The Golden Eagles can’t at this stage control that, first-year coach Michael Tesch pointed out. What Charleston can control is how it handles its business on Saturday.

The Golden Eagles travel to Institute to meet archrival West Virginia State at noon on Saturday. They’re ranked 10th in a region that sends eight teams on to the postseason, but more than just a playoff appearance is on the line.

“For our guys, it’s about winning this game because it’s our rival, and it’s about being the best team in the city,” Tesch said Friday, “and that’s what our goal is tomorrow.”
