Parkview Health’s maternal child health bereavement coordinator suffered a similar loss 14 years ago when her newborn daughter never made it home from the hospital.

“Norah would be in eighth grade this year. I would love to know her personality,” McKenzie said. “Losing her was one of the most life-changing things I’ve ever experienced.”

McKenzie and Parkview co-workers wanted a way to give parents grieving an infant loss a lasting keepsake. The result is a program called Forever in Your Heart. Unlike fragile clay impressions of an infant’s hands or feet, these 3D printed replicas made of photopolymer resin won’t break. And if one is lost, it can be re-created by using the unique image stored in a computer file.
