MISHAWAKA – Twice, Penn seemed to be on the verge of putting away Carroll for good in Friday’s Class 6A regional championship.
Twice, the Chargers found the answer and turned the tables on the Kingsmen.
After falling behind by nine points in the first quarter and then again in the third, Carroll scored the final three touchdowns of the game in the fourth quarter to beat Penn 41-30 and claim the second regional title in program history.
“It means a lot. This game wasn’t just straightforward, there were a lot of ups and downs,” senior wide receiver Jaidon VanPelt said. “We as a team, we’re strong, and so we pulled through in the end.”
The Chargers (9-3) will play host to Westfield (10-2) in a semistate title game next Friday.
