CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) - For the first time since Class 5A was created, an Eastern Iowa team has punched their ticket to the state title game.
Liberty is crashing the party normally reserved for Central Iowa teams, as they beat Waukee Northwest 31-15.
After scoring on the game’s first possession - a 12 yard touchdown pass from Reece Rettig to Pryor Reiners - the Lightning never trailed.
The senior quarterback Rettig finished 25-of-31 through the air with 210 passing yards and two passing touchdowns, with another rushing TD.
Junior running back Brody Beaver finished with 93 yards on the ground and a touchdown.
Liberty will try to upset No. 1 seed Dowling Catholic in the finals. The game is set for 7:00 Friday night.
