TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - It’s no secret that food insecurity is a real problem in southern Arizona.
Almost a million people rely on food banks in the state, and thousands are dealing with a disability on top of all of it.
Every box of food is served up and sealed by workers like Chris Gallardo.
“I’m proud of myself,” Gallardo said.
He’s one of thousands of people with disabilities who are learning skills at United Cerebral Palsy of Southern Arizona and entering the workforce.
“Learn how to prep items, how to cook, while simultaneously supporting people who have food insecurity or needs,” UCPSA Statewide Director of Employment Services Vanessa Zuber said.
Those very meals are going to others with disabilities who are struggling to get food on the table.
