The Bombay High Court on Thursday expressed anguish over what it described as a decline in moral values while hearing a family dispute in which a son sought to bar his elderly parents from using a residential premises in a Goregaon (East) transit camp. The City Civil Court in Mumbai had earlier refused his plea for an injunction, prompting the appeal before the High Court.

Justice Jitendra Jain, delivering an interim order, said the case reflected a "sorry state of affairs" in society. He observed that cultural values had eroded to the extent that children were taking their parents to court instead of fulfilling basic duties of care.
