US military ups involvement in Latin America Expanded mission, redeployed naval forces

The Pentagon on Thursday announced the formal launch of “Operation Southern Spear,” a new U.S. mission aimed at dismantling narcoterrorism networks operating throughout Latin America. The initiative gives an official name and expanded strategic framework to a campaign that the U.S. military has already been escalating in the region.
