Just over a year since Uber and Lyft launched their new options for passengers to hail women-only drivers, a group of men from California is suing the companies. Using California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act , the group of men is claiming that the companies are discriminating against them and limiting their earning opportunities.
A total of four men from California have filed the lawsuits, with two suing Lyft and the other two suing Uber. Lyft launched its driver preference program, called Women+ Connect , in February 2024. Uber launched its own version, a new " women preferences " setting in its app, in July 2025.
Both programs allow the driver and/or the passenger to set a preference for who they ride with. Lyft's program, now over a year old, also offers non-binary options. In bot
