For years leading up to last season’s Class 5A state semifinal berth, Fairview football’s weaker regular-season schedule was the weight that dragged it off a cliff whenever the postseason rolled around.
While the kittens that the eighth-seeded Knights faced this season paled in comparison to the beasts of Arapahoe’s Centennial League — all but one team of which made the 24-man playoff field — it was Fairview who brought the ferocity in its 78-28, second-round win over the No. 9 Warriors at Recht Field on Friday night.
A tight first quarter that broke 21-15 in Arapahoe’s favor quickly devolved into chaos brought on by the likes of Fairview’s junior quarterback Ki Ellison and senior wide receiver Sabi Ruttgers, who accounted for six and five touchdowns, respectively. Ellison passed for 311
