ALMONT – Over the past two decades, Almont has reached the postseason 19 times.
The Raiders – currently ranked No. 1 in the state in Division 6 – have qualified a total of 16 times, last missing the cut in 2009.
But this time around, Almont is still undefeated and Friday the Raiders captured their fifth regional championship and will play in the state semifinals for the fifth time since 2011 with a resounding 44-8 victory over visiting fifth-ranked Detroit Edison.
Almont (12-0) will play in the Final Four next Saturday against fellow state powerhouse Jackson Lumen Christi at a time and location to be determined later this weekend. Lumen Christi won its regional crown Friday with a 21-7 victory over Ida.
