LOGAN – It’s safe to say that the Opera Theatre at Utah State University has a “thing” for musicals about Russia.
Back in the autumn of 2023, they staged the first local debut of the musical Anastasia in the Morgan Theatre up on campus. Now the faculty and students of the Opera Theatre are performing Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 at LionHeart Hall in downtown Logan .
The little-known show that opened in that unusual venue on Nov. 14 is a wild ride, with brilliant staging, breathtaking vocal performances, energetic dancing, sumptuous costuming and superb orchestration.
The sung-through musical, performed in an intense electro-pop style, was written, composed and arranged by playwright Dave Malloy.
