The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Friday broke its silence after a bruising defeat in the Bihar assembly elections, posting a restrained message on X that framed the loss as part of a longer political grind.
"Public service is an unceasing process, an endless journey. Ups and downs are inevitable in it. No sorrow in defeat, no arrogance in victory. The Rashtriya Janata Dal is the party of the poor. It will continue to raise their voice among the poor," the party said in a post on X.
Even as the RJD sought to strike a calm note, its seat tally told the story of a sharp slide -- down to 25 from 75. Congress, its key ally in the state, won only six of the 61 seats it contested, compared to 19 last time.
