I n 2019, Russian state TV showed a map on air of potential military targets for a nuclear attack in the United States. As you’d expect, it included places like the Pentagon and Camp David. However, it also included Fort Ritchie on South Mountain, which had been closed for more than a decade at that time. Fox News speculated that the target would actually be the nearby Raven Rock Complex. This speculation is understandable because when the existence of the complex first went public in November 1952, it was called “The Ritchie Project.”
