Court Blocks Administration’s Attempt to Penalize Universities Over “Woke” Policies

Federal efforts to punish the University of California system over allegations of antisemitism and discrimination have been temporarily halted after a judge ruled the Trump administration cannot immediately cut funding or impose fines while a legal challenge moves forward.

U.S. District Judge Rita Lin in San Francisco issued a preliminary injunction Friday, siding with labor unions and advocacy groups representing UC faculty, students, and employees. The plaintiffs argue the administration is leveraging funding threats to suppress protected viewpoints and force universities to adopt its political agenda — a violation of constitutional rights and federal law.
