Much has changed for Winfield and Herbert Hoover’s football teams since they last met on Sept. 5 and 6.

The Cardinal Conference foes were each playing the second game of the season when the Huskies handed the Generals a 35-0 setback at Generals Stadium. Lightning delays midway through the third quarter that Friday night forced the remainder of the game to be played on Saturday.

More than two months later, the two will play on Saturday again when they kick off a WVSSAC Class AAA first-round playoff game. This time, the game will be played in Elkview.

Winfield coach Eddie Smolder said after the two teams played the first time that Hoover was more physical than the Generals, but that when play had resumed the second day, he saw more of what he expected.
