Waitrose is issuing invisible tags across all of its 422 stores in a bid to improve its sustainability efforts.

Starting this week, it's unlikely customers will notice any change due to the smart technology already at work.

It is building off the back of a collaboration the supermarket launch began in April, when it announced its venture with Polytag.

Essentially, on milk bottles there are invisible recycling tags to help supermarkets track how well customers are recycling packaging.

These will now be added to Waitrose's own-label milk bottles, with plans to expand the labelling further in the future.
