It’s probably a good thing Lou Lamoriello is no longer a general manager in the NHL.

The New York Islanders fired the 82-year-old as president and GM after missing the playoffs last season and replaced him with former Canadien Mathieu Darche, who is 48.

The NHL is run by an old-boys’ club and Lamoriello is as old-school as they come. His head might be exploding now as he watches NHL players show up for games not wearing suits and ties.

The NHL and the NHLPA agreed this season to finally eliminate a strict dress code that required players to wear suits and ties for all games and for travel. Under the new rules, players must dress in a manner consistent with “contemporary fashion norms,” which can range from casual to formal.
