AVONDALE, Ariz. — A suspect has been arrested following the murder of an Avondale teen earlier this month, according to authorities.

The Avondale Police Department said on Nov. 14, Emilio Rivera, 18, was arrested in connection with the killing of Rhiana Kemplin.

Kemplin was shot and killed in her home, near Dysart and McDowell roads. on Nov. 9.

Rivera is facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

Court records show Kemplin's mother told Avondale police she had been woken up by a door being forced open and saw a male in dark-colored clothing and a facemask allegedly pointing a firearm at her. She claims the man fired twice; however, the gun malfunctioned. The man then fled from the apartment.
