The Monroe Red Jackets have talked about returning to a high school football state tournament for almost two years, but they will fall short of getting there if they don't defeat Honeoye Falls-Lima in the Section V Class B championship.

Monroe was expected to reach this tournament final. The Red Jackets, who share the No. 1 spot in the New York State Sportswriters Association state rankings, ranked No. 1 in the state, are undefeated with a big-play offense and a shut-it-down defense.

The first half of the season was rocky for the Honeoye Falls-Lima Cougars, but that seems like a long time ago these days. HF-L has won three in a row, after holding a 1-5 won-loss record after falling 38-7 to Monroe on Oct. 10.
