The Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, has said she will ‘restore order’ to the asylum system in the UK, as part of new changes to be announced on Monday. Refugee status will be made temporary, while the duty to provide financial support will be scrapped.

But while ministers have also pledged to phase out the use of hotels to house asylum seekers – finding alternative accommodation isn’t easy. In Inverness,around 300 men are due to be housed at an army Barracks. And some local families are not happy about it.
