The race in the SWAC East is narrowing down to its final weeks between Alabama State football (7-2, 5-1 SWAC) and Jackson State (7-2, 5-1). The Hornets are set to face Mississippi Valley State (1-8, 0-5) in the Port City Classic, while Jackson State will try to survive Bethune Cookman (5-5, 4-2) at home.
The Tigers currently hold the head-to-head tie breaker after defeating the Hornets on Oct. 11. Alabama State needs to win its last three games and hope Jackson State at least one of its last two games of the season for a chance at the SWAC title game.
