GRAND FORKS — Troy Stecher is headed to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Toronto picked up Stecher, a former UND defenseman, off waivers from the Edmonton Oilers.
Stecher had played in six games for the Oilers this season.
He is in the final year of a two-year, $1.58-million deal.
Stecher played three seasons at UND from 2013-16, leading the Fighting Hawks to their eighth NCAA national championship as a junior.
The 5-foot-10 defender signed as an undrafted free agent with the Vancouver Canucks after his junior year.
Stecher also had stints with the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, Arizona Coyotes, Calgary Flames and Oilers. He's played in 566 regular-season NHL games, tallying 22 goals and 117 points.
Stecher went to back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals with the Oilers in 2024 and 2025. He
