SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — An air rescue is underway after a hiker overheated on a trail in Scottsdale on Saturday morning.

At about 11:15 a.m., first responders were dispatched to the Gateway Loop Trail on reports of a man in his 40s who was experiencing “severe heat exhaustion.”

Scottsdale and Phoenix Fire Department technical rescue crews have found the man about 5.5 miles into the trail, and because of harsh terrain and distance, will use a helicopter and hoist to remove him.

Firefighters say the man is in stable condition and will be further evaluated once he is off the trail.
