There was a lot of excitement around the North Shore on Saturday. ESPN’s “College GameDay” and “ACC Huddle” were in town. Crowds had been gathering since the day prior. Aaron Donald’s jersey was getting retired on the 50th anniversary of Tony Dorsett’s 303-yard performance against Notre Dame.
It had all the makings to be a fantastic day for Pitt football. Unfortunately for the Panthers, it was anything but. The defense did its best in slowing down Notre Dame with little result, and the offense couldn’t get any momentum. The few times Mason Heintschel’s offense was cruising, almost every time they fell short — including when Desmond Reid had to be carried off the field after a 27-yard gain put Pitt in the red zone.
