A man is dead and a child is missing after three members of a family were swept into the water at Garrapata Beach on Friday afternoon, according to first responders.
The father was pulled out of the water, and a 5-year-old girl is still missing. The Monterey County Sheriff's Office said she was last seen wearing a red shirt.
The child's mother, who was also swept in while trying to reach for her family members, was able to return to shore on her own, the sheriff's office said. A 2-year-old child was unharmed.
State Parks told KCRA 3's partners at KSBW that CPR was performed on the father, who was transported to a local hospital. Hours later, the sheriff's office confirmed the man had died.
The mother was also transported to the hospital and had signs of mild hypothermia, officials said
