Tom Selleck finally responded to the theories regarding his Blue Bloods character's potential return in Boston Blue . The actor played the New York City Police Commissioner, Frank Reagan , in the flagship show for its entire 14-season run.

After the spinoff was announced, fans of Blue Bloods almost immediately began to wonder which characters would return, or at least guest star, in the new show.
