BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football quarterback Fernando Mendoza downplayed his trip to the injury tent on Saturday afternoon during a 31-7 win over Wisconsin that ended with him setting the program's single-season touchdown record.
Before the record-setting score, IU fans held their breath when Mendoza was dropped behind the line of scrimmage for the fifth time early in the fourth quarter.
Mendoza, who was sporting a fresh bruise around his eye during his postgame interviews , tried to escape the pocket looking to convert a third down only for Wisconsin linebacker Cooper Catalano to drag him down from behind. The quarterback's head bounced off the turf and he also took a knee to the back of his head from Badgers safety Grant Dean as he rolled over on the ground.
