MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — Three people are in custody after a nearly six-month-long investigation into a teen’s murder in May.

Mesa Police announced on Saturday that 18-year-old Bre’on Ballard, 18-year-old (at the time) Nikko Cartier, and 19-year-old (at the time) Jameeier White are facing murder charges in the death of 16-year-old Azriel Lloyd.

Police say that although the three suspects were all early persons of interest, detectives needed additional evidence before any charging decisions could be made.

The incident happened on the night of May 21. Police responded to a shooting around 10 p.m. at The Premiere at Dana Park apartments , near the U.S. 60 and Val Vista Drive.
