The Vancouver Canucks have added some centre depth.
Saturday the NHL team confirmed they’d signed free agent centre David Kampf to a one-year, $1.1 million contract. Kampf, 30, was released by the Toronto Maple Leafs this week.
He had been in the third season of four-year $9.6 million contract, but hadn’t appeared in a game this season and agreed to a mutual termination.
The Canucks weren’t the only team to chase after Kampf, but the Canucks were obviously the best fit.
“ David is an excellent skater and excels on the defensive side of the game and D-zone starts,” Kampf’s agent J.P. Barry said in an email. “He is very strong on the PK and makes the forwards around him better players. We received several calls the last 24 hours for his services.”
In the short term he may take a lead
