Democrats have the audacity to blame Republicans for the nation's longest shutdown, arguing the GOP's refusal to extend Obamacare subsidies was the holdup to a deal.

But the need for extended budget-busting was rooted in the utter failure of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which Democrats own entirely.

Democrats muscled the ACA through Congress in 2010 without Republican input and without a single Republican vote. It was former President Barack Obama’s signature policy. The promise was that it would cut the cost of health insurance and ensure that everyone would get coverage. That, the Democrats vowed, would reduce overall health care spending.

Fifteen years later, those promises have not been delivered. The experiment has failed, and its enormous costs have become too great to ignore.
